CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -
Prom season is back, and a big question will be: how much skin is too much skin for a prom outfit?
Chicago Public Schools do not have a specific policy on the look of prom dresses and suits.
But individual schools are putting out messages like the one from Thornton Township High School in Harvey.
This year's theme is "A Romantic Night in Paris." But girls who try
to capture the look of their favorite Hollywood stars on the red carpet
may be disappointed. Excessive bare skin is out.
One Chicago woman who has spent years designing prom dresses for
those who cannot afford them, and she knows what schools don't want to
see.
Barbara Bates said when a student asks for tops that drop too low -
or dresses slit up too high - she gives them a very clear message.
But some students FOX Chicago News spoke with said the trend of
skimpier "skin" dresses is actually going out of style, and it's being
replaced by more fabric.
But don't think boys are off the hook either. Thornton Township High
doesn't want the guys wearing jeans or gym shoes - even if the stars do
it.
