George Zimmerman made his initial appearance in a Seminole County court Thursday for his second-degree murder charge in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin.
Before the brief hearing, Zimmerman entered the small courtroom in the jail wearing a one-piece gray jumpsuit with his hands shackled in front of him. He stood next to his attorney, Mark O'Mara.
Judge Mark E. Herr was not in the courtroom, but was speaking through a closed-circuit TV connection.
During the four-minute hearing, Zimmerman stood up straight and looked straight ahead. He spoke only to answer "Yes, sir," twice after he was asked basic questions about the charge against him. His hair was shaved down to stubble and he had a thin goatee, which appeared consistent with his jail booking photo from the day before.
The judge said he found probable cause to move ahead with the case and that an arraignment would be held on May 29 at 1:30 p.m. before another judge. No decision was made regarding bond.
