Ask Dr. Oz: Gall Stones


Audience member Annette asks Dr. Oz if eating too much spinach will increase the risk of gall stones.

Dr. Oz responds that spinach will not dramatically change gall stone numbers at all. Dr. Oz notes there are other hormones that could be shifted, thyroid is an example, that in some people uncommonly can be influenced by raw vegetables that we eat. Dr. Oz further notes that he would rather have a small risk of any problem and still have his spinach.

Dr. Oz stresses that of all major food groups, cruciferous vegetables and leafy greens are such a fundamental part of how are body needs nutrients to survive, and they shouldn’t be given up.
