Co-Writer Disagrees with Eye of Tiger Lawsuit Against Newt Gingrich

Two former members of Survivor, the band behind the iconic Eye of the Tiger hit song, are in disagreement over a lawsuit against Newt Gingrich asking him to stop playing the song.

The Grammy and People’s Choice Award-winning song was written by Chicagoans Frank Sullivan and Jim Peterik as the theme song for Rocky III and it was the number one song in the country in 1982.

Sullivan is suing presidential candidate Newt Gingrich to stop the republican from using the song in his campaign, saying it's copyright infringement, but Peterik is not on-board with the lawsuit.

Peterik joined us with his reaction to the suit. He said the song is motivational, so if it motivates people to go vote, that’s a good thing.

He also said his manager told him as long as the venue has a blanket license, there’s no copyright violation.

“This is not for any one political candidate,” Peterik said as he played the song, “this is for the world!”
