Chicago's Most Wanted Tire Iron Bandit

It takes a lot to surprise an FBI agent. That's what investigators were when they first saw the photos of the 'Tire Iron' Bandit in action. In the past, they've seen bank robbers armed with knives, fake bombs and hammers but never a tire iron until now.

Agents believe the "Tire Iron" Bandit is responsible for robbing the First Merit Bank in Willow Springs in July. They say the he entered the bank wielding the tire iron and demanded money from the tellers. They also say he threatened to kill bank employees and customers if his demands were not met. After receiving money, witnesses tell police the "Tire Iron" Bandit drove off in a late model, tan Lincoln or Grand Marquis with Indiana license plates.

Less than an hour before robbing the bank in Willow Springs, agents say the 'Tire Iron' Bandit attempted to rob a Citizens Financial Bank branch in Palos Heights. They say he entered that bank wearing a hat and dark sunglasses. When a bank teller asked him to take them off, witnesses say he left the bank saying he was going to get his driver's license and never returned.

Agents describe the "Tire Iron" Bandit as a white male, about thirty years old, 6' 0", weighing around 250 pounds, and have a goatee.

He is considered armed and dangerous. If you have any information on this case, call the Chicago FBI at (312) 421-6700.
