Audience member Cheryl asks Dr. Oz how someone gets Shingles (herpes zoster – a painful, blistering skin rash due to the varicella-zoster virus, the virus that causes chickenpox). Cheryl also asks Dr. Oz what the best cure is for Shingles.
Dr. Oz states that if one has had chickenpox, then one can contract Shingles. Dr. Oz says that when your body builds-up immunity whilst fighting-off chickenpox, the virus hides in the nerve roots around the spine. Doctors can prescribe an anti-viral medicine for Shingles, and in the case of chickenpox, immunizations are available.
