MINNEAPOLIS (KMSP) -
Minnesota State Patrol accident reconstructionist Sgt. Paul Skoglund said evidence indicates Anousone Phantavong was standing and fully-illuminated by Amy Senser's headlight when he was struck and killed last August.
Skoglund said the fact Phantavong would have been 40 percent above the height of the SUVs hood as he poured car into his broken-down car on the Riverside Ave. ramp.
Other facts from Sgt. Skoglund:
- Phantavong was 247 feet from the base of the exit ramp, about four seconds of travel time that Amy Senser would have had to see him.
- The damage to the SUV means Phantavong was standing directly in front of the passenger side headlight, which was working at impact. That means he was fully illuminated, wearing a white t-shirt.
- There were no skid marks to indicate Senser tried to stop or swerve.
- Amy Senser was driving an estimated 40 to 50 mph.
- The distance Phantavong was thrown, 50 feet from where he stood, indicates he went about 27 mph.
The jury was instructed to return next week with bags packed, prepared to be sequestered as soon as Tuesday.
