Metro prom moves to Target store amid bomb threat at Earle Brown Heritage Center

ROBBINSDALE, Minn. -

It's a prom the students at Robbinsdale-Armstrong High School will never forget as a bomb threat forced their party out into a nearby Target store parking lot. But it did not stop the students from having one heck of a night.

As workers pulled down the last remnants of prom at the Earle Brown Heritage Center, the students who made the event one for the ages took some time to reflect.

At about 9:15 p.m. Saturday law enforcement received a phone call that a bomb was about to detonate inside the sprawling Brooklyn Center facility. Rather than taking any chances, police evacuated everyone -- the entire Robbinsdale-Armstrong prom and two separate wedding parties.

Seniors Sterling Nelson and his girlfriend Ana Archer were among those forced outside. But rather than flushing their prom down the toilet, the class of 2012 rallied. Buses brought students to a nearby Target store where the "Lights of Paris" theme was replaced by the lights of the big box store. Nelson and Archer held up the fun in royal fashion, as they were crowned prom king and queen.

While most everyone made the most of a tough situation, there were some who weren't laughing about the bomb threat that forced prom to target.

"I've heard a lot of people really angry -- whole outfit, dress, shoes, limo, party bus -- and it's canceled after an hour," said attending Sophomore Tanner Berris. "I've heard people calling it Promgate, Target Prom."

Some late-arriving students, who dressed up and spent good money, never even made it inside their prom because the evacuation order came about an hour after it started.

One police source tells FOX 9 they have good leads on the suspect who called in the threat.

It's unclear if it was merely a high school prank, as there were two weddings celebrating at the venue simultaneously.
