Edina Realty removes listings from Realtor.com

Posted: Updated:

Anyone buying or selling a home has probably used Realtor.com a time or two. Now, thousands of listings in the Twin Cities will be disappearing from the national website.

Edina Realty tells FOX 9 it's all about quality control. Realtor.com is not living up to the Edina Realty's standards, so the local company is backing out and taking thousands of listings with them.

Edina Realty has already parted ways with Trulia.com. The company says its decision to leave Realtor.com is based on client satisfaction. The company says agents paying for advertisements are often listed next to homes they aren't actually selling, which is confusing buyers.

Edina Realty also claims Realtor.com is full of inaccuracies.

Senior Vice President of Edina Realty Jim Young said, "We want to make sure we're providing the most accurate data in the safest environment possible for our sellers."

The President of Realtor.com Errol Samuelson said in a prepared statement that the listings "are sourced directly from the MLS (Multiple Listings Source) and are updated every fifteen minutes."

Realtor.com has long been a one-stop shop for customers searching for a home. That's why other realtors say Edina Realty's decision will only hurt consumers.

Coldwell Banker Burnet Vice President Matt Baker said, "There's been absolutely no reason we wouldn't want that level of activity. Often times, these showings (on the website) lead to general requests to physically see the property."

Baker also mentioned that Realtor.com helps realtors develop relationships with prospective clients.

Edina Realty says many local brokers share and post real estate listings on their websites, so home buyers will still be able to find thousands of Twin Cities listings.

The Edina Realty listings should disappear from Realtor.com in the next ten days.
