Minnetonka police are frustrated because the man they believe is responsible for burglaries at about 20 homes still has not been caught.
"He focuses on high-end jewelry, coins, small items, and cash," Sgt. Dave Riegert told FOX 9 News.
Investigators have been trying to catch up with Jeffrey Boemer for the past month. Police say he most recently targeted a home last Thursday, when he used a rock from the homeowner's landscaping to break in.
"He rifled through all the drawers in the den and took cash, and went through all the drawers in the bedrooms," said Becky, the homeowner.
Days before, investigators say Boemer popped open a screen to a window at another home. Minutes later, the young mother returned from a bike ride with her husband and baby.
"My husband came in and went into the kitchen, and I stayed out in the garage with her," Jen recalled. "All of a sudden, I hear a slam and hear him running across our yard."
Jen said Boemer left in a hurry, but he had filled one of her own suitcases with coins and items from her house.
Investigators believe Boemer takes Metro Transit Bus Route 675 direct from downtown Minneapolis, where they believe he is homeless, into Minnetonka.
"He does stay in shelters. We've visited those and there have been sightings of him, but we have not connected with the right combination yet," said Riegert,
Boemer's criminal history includes half a dozen burglary convictions, along with an arson and manslaughter conviction from the mid1980s.
"We are very concerned about that," Riegert told FOX 9 News. "He does have an extensive criminal history and there are some significant things there. So yeah, we are very concerned. If he were cornered, what would be do to get away?"
Neighbors spotted Boemer in the area again on Tuesday morning. He was walking near Holdridge Road East and Crosby, just across the Wayzata border. Once again, however, he slipped into the woods and away from police.
Police believe Boemer also stole a gold 2002 Lexus SUV with the license plate 736-BGM from the driveway of a home he targeted, but they do not know whether he has been driving it.
A $1,000 reward is being offered for anyone with information about Jeffrey Boemer's location.
