It's official, a transformer star and a dancing diva will hook up for a new movie headed to the big screen. Relativity Media just closed deals with Josh Duhamel (Transformers, Life As We Know It) and Julianne Hough (Rock of Ages, Footloose) to star in its upcoming film adaptation of Safe Haven.
The film will be based on the best-selling novel from internationally-known author Nicholas Sparks. Remember, he's the talented genius who created cultural hits like The Notebook, Dear John and The Lucky One.
Safe Haven is an affirming and suspenseful story about Katie (Julianne Hough), a young woman who struggles to find love again after she arrives in a small North Carolina town. Her reluctance to join the tight-knit community raises questions about her past, but slowly, she begins putting down roots, and gains the courage to start a relationship with Alex (Josh Duhamel).
Duhamel's character is a widowed store owner with two young children. In the storyline dark secrets intrude on Katie's (Hough) new life with such terror that she is forced to rediscover the meaning of sacrifice and rely on the power of love. So far it seems like this movie is made for men and woman. The romantic thriller sounds like it may be a chick flick with a little bit of suspense.
In a recent interview Sparks expressed his faith in his new lead actors.
"I'm thrilled that Josh and Julianne have agreed to come aboard Safe Haven—it's hard to think of an actor better-suited to play the character of Alex than Josh, and Julianne will bring a combination of vulnerability and strength to the role of Katie. They are both such talented and charismatic individuals – and best of all, they have tremendous personal chemistry, which is essential for this film," Sparks said.
The film is expected to start production next month in Southport, North Carolina. The expected release date is February 8, 2013.
