Father’s Day homecoming for Minnesota National Guard

Updated:

That fact that we lost a young Marine in Afghanistan this week, whose memory we honor, gives us all the more reason to welcome home a group of National Guard members this weekend.

What makes the homecoming even more special is the fact it's just in time for Father's Day.

Leaving behind the little ones is especially hard, but let's not forget those like Sgt. Craig Anderson, who left two teenagers behind.

For Sgt. Anderson, there's a special bond with both his daughter and son.

"He's really protective," 13-year-old Kayla said. "I tell him I have a boyfriend and he says who do I have to chase off now? I missed it. Now I'll get a handful."

At the home of Sgt. Tony Centola, it's the third time returning home from deployment. It never gets easier -- the pictures on the refrigerator mark the homecomings, and the years.

"It means everything to be back here and reunited with the family," Sgt. Centola said. "All the team made it home safe, so it's great."
