VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -
Police conducted a search in the back yard of an accused child rapist in Volusia County and found human remains.
The search was conducted in the back yard of James Maxwell's Port Orange home. Cadaver dogs were used in the search.
Investigators have not said if the remains are those of a child or adult but say they know the identity of the victim, but won't say who it is until DNA test results come back in a few weeks.
Police say Maxwell is the prime suspect.
Maxwell was arrested in December and charged with raping a 9-year-old girl.
Police say Maxwell, 43, was attending a party at the girl's home and abducted her from the home and sexually assaulted her.
Maxwell is charged with capital sexual battery and abduction. He is being held in the Volusia County Jail without bail.
