Severe weather blasts south, east metro

Posted: Updated:

As we wait for another potential blast of severe weather, many in the south and east metro are catching their breath.

Residents like Armin Hoffman, a photographer who works out of his home studio in Hastings.

It is in their backyard where Armin and his wife, Cindy, capture lifetime memories for their clients.

But on Tuesday, the images were of loss, damage and destruction.

The overwhelming combination of ground saturation and extreme winds toppled trees and power lines across Hastings overnight, block after block, home after home.

"It's such a mess," said Cindy. "The building didn't get hurt. No shade for pictures for a while."

"This outdoor studio is destroyed," Armin added.

Armin and Cindy's business dreams were splintered in a matter of seconds. Neighbors and tree crews spent all day Tuesday cleaning up the mess under the hot summer sun.

The hardest hit sections of the city had no electricity – so no air conditioning or refrigeration.

And with forecasts calling for more severe weather in the coming late Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning, everyone was bracing for the worst.
