Northern Arizona woman accused of raffle fraud

Posted: Updated:

PRESCOTT, Ariz. (AP) - Authorities say a Paulden woman has been arrested for allegedly selling fraudulent raffle tickets.

Yavapai County Sheriff's officials say 29-year-old Sonia Rios is being held on a $75,000 bond on suspicion of fraudulent schemes.

They say Rios already was in custody on prior unrelated charges and on an immigration hold.

Authorities say Rios allegedly sold numerous fraudulent raffle tickets in and around the Chino Valley and Paulden communities between May 19 and June 15.

They say Rios also allegedly used a fake name to sell the tickets and fraudulently told people the raffle was for a pickup truck. She also allegedly told people the money was going toward helping a family deal with medical bills for a baby born premature.

Authorities say they've identified 24 raffle ticket victims so far.
