DETROIT (WJBK) -

At Tuesday's Detroit Library Commission meeting, Detroit Public Schools Emergency Manager Roy Roberts presented a letter asserting his right to remove members of the Library Commission under Public Act 4.

Commissioner LaMar Lemmons, president of the Detroit Board of Education, is the first to go.  He is being replaced by Roberts himself.

In the letter, Roberts say he was concerned about the Library Commission's ability to work together.

During the meeting, commissioners fought with each other and were heckled non-stop by the crowd.

Roberts also questioned the commissioners political agendas after allegations of secret alliances to vote out the commission's executive director, unpopular for slashing the budget and eliminating personal service contracts, including one for the daughter of one of the commission members worth $60,000.

Commission President Jonathan Kinloch was accused of calling a special meeting when one of the commissioners was on vacation so they could vote the director out of office.  They only had three out of seven votes, but the vote still stood and she's been on administrative leave ever since.  The Library Commission's June meeting was then canceled, some say to prevent the reversal of that decision.
