CEO and chief old person of DoSomething.org, Nancy Lublin, talked with FOX 2 this morning about how teens can get involved in their community this summer.
According to the 2012 National Survey on Young People and Volunteering, 93% of teens in the U.S. say they want to volunteer. Yet, only 22% of them actively do. The nation's largest organization for teens and social change, DoSomething.org, is partnering with Bing to launch a new campaign that asks teens to 'do something.'
As part of Bing's "Summer of Doing," the search engine has teamed up with DoSomething.org and Lenovo for "The Hunt: 11 Days of Doing," which will pose 11 days of challenges each with the goal of engaging teens around the country to affect social change for positive community impact.
Teens can work together as teams to complete the challenges and report back to show how they created measurable impact in their community, all while collecting points to win cool prizes and scholarships.
The challenges will focus on important issues such as environment, poverty and homelessness, saving, violence and bullying, health and fitness, discrimination, disaster response and relief, education, and animal welfare.
