COMMERCE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WJBK) -

Most people who have a near death experience probably say they're just happy to be alive, but one gas station clerk says he is angry that the thief got away, and if he ever comes back, he says he'll be ready.

"He was running to me.  He was pointing a gun at me, telling me give me all your money," said the clerk.

The video is jaw-dropping.  A man with a surgical mask and an empty bag walks into the BP gas station on Pontiac Trail in Commerce Township and goes right for the clerk while he is counting money on the counter.  The thief point a gun right in the clerk's face, then a sudden act of bravery.

"Handing him the money, then he was too close to me that I tried to take the gun from him.
I grabbed the gun.  I was going to punch him, but, unfortunately, I missed him, and I ended up on the floor," the clerk explained.

The clerk tried to punch the gunman in the face, a dangerous move, but he says he would do it again.

"I believe in destiny.  I believe no one dies before his time, so if I was meant to die, I would've been dead," he said.  "More upset that I got defeated by him.  I wish I would've got his gun, got him down, but unfortunately the opposite happened, and hopefully next time I'll will be more careful.  I'll lock the doors."

The thief got away with $1,000 in cash and the clerk's cell phone.

"I hope he goes to hell.  That's all I can say," said the clerk.
