Loosen up tight muscles and relieve joint pain

You may have seen these weird looking foam rollers at the store and wondered what it is or does. Well that little tool may look simple but it does amazing wonders for your body in just a matter of seconds.

It's called a foam roller and it's used for "Self Myofascial Release" (SMR). These are being used by professional athletes, dancers, mixed martial artist, and now the general public.

So what is SMR? Basically it's a way to create greater flexibility and power in the muscle by releasing adhesions. For example, we walk a lot so over time our legs build up these cast like adhesion that look like the plys of a tire which inhibit the full use of that muscle. You can't stretch these no matter how hard you try so SMR is a must for full flexibility and power.

The foam roller breaks those adhesions up and allows the muscle to move freely therefore also allowing the joints to move freely which many times relieves aches and pains. I'm speaking professionally and from personal experience when I say I couldn't live without this thing, it works and feels great right when your done.

How to use it:

Place the muscle you want to loosen up on top of the roller.

Push your weight down on it and roll slowly until you find a tender spot, (an adhesion) and stop.

Hold still keeping pressure on that spot for about 30 seconds or until you feel it release.

Then slowly roll further along that muscle until you find the next tender spot.

Here are four areas you should roll on a regular basis:

1. Calves

2. IT Band

3. Lats

4. Glutes

Foam roll before your next workout and you will notice a huge difference in strength, flexibility, and joint mobility.

These can be purchased online or any department store. Make sure the one you get is very dense so it last longer and gets the job done.
