Off the Chain: Race Baiting

Posted: Updated:

Mr. Vice-President. Mr. Ex-Mayor. Mr. Minister. Who do you think you're talking to?

We've lived through a pathetic week of your racial pandering. Black versus White, you make it seem -- when the real trouble is Green.

Vice President Joe Biden kicked the week off by telling a largely black audience that Mitt Romney would unchain Wall Street and "put y'all back in chains."

I never heard him speak to white people like that.

After taking a lot of heat , Biden corrected himself, saying he meant to say "shackles" not chains.

Oh! Thank you sir for the clarification sir.

Biden may be right about Romney unchaining the big banks, but his own administration's pussyfoot treatment toward Wall Street is one reason why the presidential race is so close.

Kwame Kilpatrick was back in town taking questions at a posh hotel the other evening. He was asked if a white person could be mayor of Detroit.

The ex-con/ex-mayor called it a "plantation question" – saying: "I was in prison with some white people, you don't want them to be mayor."

I hope he means ex-con white people. Because we don't need any ex-cons in the Manoogian Mansion – no matter what color -- especially one who admits he siphoned off $10 million from the poorest urban dwellers in the Western World to hide evidence of his perjury and philandering.

I recently got off an elevator at City Hall. A minister – who makes much of his bread from public contracts -- told me he had been defending me vigorously because the black power clique was grousing that I "wasn't from here." That's racial code for "back off white boy."

But remember, the mayor is not from the city. Nor the deputy mayor. Much of the mayor's executive staff, the police and the fire brass don't live in the city proper either. You'd be surprised how many ministers hide out in the burbs. Kilpatrick himself – after pleading guilty in 2008 --beat town for Texas, where he moved into one of the richest, whitest suburbs in America. How a man with no job can afford that is beyond me.

What in the world does color or living address have to do with caring about the public's welfare anyway?

From Wayne County to Wall Street to Washington D.C., those with positions of power don't seem to get it.

The most dangerous person in the world is not the Have-Not. He is the Used-To-Have. There are a lot of them out there and growing by the day. Men and women and children of every creed and color.

Mr. Vice President. Mr. Ex-Mayor. Mr. Minister -- drop the race baiting and get to work… y'all.
