A Rosemount, Minn., man was arrested Thursday morning after investigators accused him of killing his 68-year-old mother after a late-night argument at her St. Cloud home.
St. Cloud police were called to the 2700 block of Atwood Drive at 12:34 a.m. Thursday for a disturbance call of two people arguing. Neighbors, including a 12-year-old girl next door, heard a woman's panicked screams.
"Just heard screaming around the neighborhood and some man aggressively talking," recalled Alyssa Steinke. "Then, (I) heard it again."
Officers found both mother and son at the back of the house, and police said the woman suffered a life-threatening injury from a sharp-edged weapon.
Neighbors watched as the woman, identified as 68-year-old Geraldine Bennett, was taken out to St. Cloud Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Her son, 40-year-old Chad Pulju, was booked into the Stearns County Jail to await second-degree murder charges.
Pulju's criminal history includes a few DWI convictions and traffic charges, but no violent offenses.
