ROSEVILLE, Mich. (WJBK) -
A police officer was called to an abandoned field in southwest Detroit for a report of a stolen pickup truck, but when he got there he found something much more valuable.
A $300,000 party bus was completely trashed. There was shattered glass all over the floor and exposed wires from the stolen radio and communication system. Televisions were stolen and even the seat cushions were ripped apart.
The party bus from Satisfaction Limousines was stolen from a Roseville 7-Eleven.
Bill was moved to tears. He was driving the bus just before it was stolen Thursday morning.
"I pulled in ... turned it off, put the keys in the cup holder like I've done so many times and went in to get some milk. A couple of guys (were) standing by a car, a burgundy Impala, and I didn't pay much attention to them. But I'm walking up to the counter with my items and the owner (said), 'You're car is being moved' or 'There's someone in your bus,' and I turn around and it's being backed up."
"I (came) running out and said, 'What are you doing?' And then he flew out of the driveway here and headed east on Twelve Mile."
Bill had planned to leave the bus at 7-Eleven overnight like he had done so many times before.
"This is a 30 person passenger bus, and they're not easy to drive. Not just anyone can drive them. I didn't expect anybody to jump in and just take off."
Police said when the party bus was found, two men were under the hood trying to take apart the engine. They ran when a DPD officer got to the scene.
Roseville police plan to use surveillance video from the 7-Eleven, but for Bill the damage has already been done. He said hurting his boss was the last thing he ever wanted to do.
"She treats these vehicles like her kids, and one of them gets damaged it's like your child getting hurt."
