Child porn attorney: MSU charges show "rush to judgement"

Posted: Updated:

Todd Hoffner's wife blasted the child porn charges her husband is facing as "ridiculous and baseless" on Monday, and the family's attorney told FOX 9 News the charges reflect a "rush to judgement."

Christa Groshek, an attorney who specializes in defending those facing child pornography charges, joined FOX 9 News to help explain how the family's response to the charges may impact the trial and what recourse the Hoffners may have if Mankato State University head football coach is found to be innocent.

In her statement on Monday, Melodee Hoffner explained that she had no idea why her husband was placed on administrative leave, and she said they were in complete shock when he was arrested over what she described as family videos.

The family's attorney said the charges reflect a "rush to judgment," and that they were just "normal, typical family videos."

Some child porn attorney's say many government and law enforcement agencies tasked with controlling the field can be overenthusiastic about initiating and concluding child pornography-related cases.

Prosecutors have also been accused of pursuing cases with little evidence, which may lead to false convictions.
