North Hudson, Wis., man wakes with knife in abdomen

Posted: Updated:

A 45-year-old man in the village of North Hudson, Wis., woke up on the floor of his kitchen Sunday evening with a knife impaling his abdomen. He told police he was the victim of a home invasion and attack that left him unconscious.

Police responded to an "open cell" 911 call around 7 p.m. on Aug. 26. The responding officer found the front door slightly open and could hear a faint voice calling out to him.

Before he was taken to the hospital, the victim told police he was alone at his home on the 600 block of North End Road when he was knocked unconscious and awoke to find a knife in his abdomen.

The resident is in stable condition at Regions Hospital in St. Paul.

Investigators say there was no sign of forced entry, and no one else was home at the time when the victim lost consciousness. Police don't yet know whether the incident is a break-in or a targeted attack.

"He's unable to come up with anyone that he would consider an enemy," said North Hudson Police Chief Mark Richert.

Richert says the incident is very unusual for the village of 3,700. In fact, Richert told FOX 9 News he's never investigated a stabbing or shooting in his 12 years on the force.

A suspect in this case has not yet been identified, so police are asking all residents to remain diligent in locking their doors and protecting themselves against unwanted intruders.

The North Hudson Police Department is asking anyone with information to contact their office at (715) 386-8433 or the St. Croix County Emergency Communications Center at (715) 386-4701.
