SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (MyFox Detroit) - Do you feel a little tickle in the back of your throat or maybe a twitch in your nose? I just checked our allergy forecast and it looks like our pollen level is about to peak!
According to Pollen.com our pollen levels are at medium high to high over the next several days.
This is the time of the year ragweed, one of the most common pollen producers, starts to flower.
An allergic reaction is actually your body's immune system responding to a foreign substance- triggering the release of histamines. That leads to symptoms like itchy throat and eyes, sneezing or even hives.
There's no cure but there are ways to tackle the symptoms: over the counter or prescription medication- which tackles those histamines, immunotherapy (allergy shots), or avoiding the allergen.
If you think about moving to the dessert to avoid the sniffling and sneezing- that used to be a good option but in recent years with people relocating to those dessert climates, and brining their favorite trees shrubs and grasses, the allergens have come too.
But you can sign up for an allergen alert email to know when the levels are high and when to stay inside at www.pollen.com.
