A local family is hoping to get some answers this week after their teenage son is shot and killed during a hostage situation in Woodbury. At first, it was believed that the young man killed was one of the suspects. His family says he was an innocent victim.
Police shot and killed 19-year-old Marc Henderson of St. Paul at the Red Roof Inn off of 494 in Woodbury early Friday morning. Officers say a man pointed a gun at them and fired, and then another man came out of the room... Came at officers... Was shot several times and died.
Henderson's parents say their son was that second man, he was unarmed and was trying to escape from his captor.
The Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating the shooting and hostage situation, which involved nine people.
Officials say it isn't exactly clear what commands officers gave Marc as he came out of the room. Henderson's family is outraged that police fired at all -- saying he was just trying to save his own life.
The 24-year-old suspect is in the Washington County Jail right now awaiting charges this week. He's being held on suspicion of kidnapping, criminal sexual conduct, and aggravated robbery.
