Dionne Miller's 'From the Press Box' - September 10

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Football was definitely in the air Sunday morning. I arrived at Soldier Field early...I love being early. It's amazing to see an NFL stadium wake up. Fans were everywhere, eating, drinking, and celebrating the return of the game they love.

After walking around...a lot - I settled in for week 1. Anxious to see this Bears O-Line, Jay Cutler find Brandon Marshall and Andrew Luck get a quick introduction to a regular season NFL defense. Wow, was I not ready for a sack, false start, short gain, incomplete, pick 6. That summed up the first two series for the 2012 Bears. Safe to say it could only get better from there...and it did. It got a lot better. Cutler's 1 of 10 start turned into a 10 of 11 stretch. Matt Forte was a beast. He had 53 yards in the first quarter and set up the first two scores. Marshall calls him "the best back in the league." Am I the only one thankful they got the deal done with 22? Worth it!

But I was most impressed with Cutler. It was a slow start and by his own admission it was his issues. After the off season changes, and all the talk of all the weapons he has the Bears first regular season snaps looked dangerously out matched. Would love to know what was going through Alshon Jeffery's head. His first game and his leader is frustrated. But Cutler has matured. That's clear. He took control and whether it was said or not the team looked at him to calmly lead and he did. The Bears had nearly 300 yards of offense in the first half. I'm new around here, but that hasn't happened a lot, right? Six different receivers all catching at least one pass over 15 yards. The fourth quarter TD pass of 42 yards to Jeffery was a thing of beauty. And while the weapons are great, it's Cutler who will make it all work together. He showed he's ready to do that in week 1 - let's see what happens against the Packers defense who is going to be pretty upset about their loss to San Francisco in their own stadium.

If Cutler was the offensive MVP, Tim Jennings was superman. What a game - two picks, nearly a third. He was all over the field. "It was a lot of work," were his first post game comments. He was quick to point out he caught more than he dropped which was something he specifically worked on in the off season. Impressive. Let's hope this is something he and the defense can do. In fact, they had five take away's. All three phases of the team made plays. It's a great starting point for this team.

But it's the same starting point they have had the last three seasons now - 1-0. Anxious to see Monday if the film looked as good as they felt in the locker room.

Henry Melton admitted Andrew Luck was more elusive than they originally expected. He threw for 309 yards and looked more comfortable every time he took a snap. Three interceptions and a fumble were not Luck's idea of a debut.

But, from a Bears stand point, the fact that the defense couldn't truly prepare for the unknown of a rookie quarterback is a great primer for Aaron Rodgers.

Injury Report: Peanut Tillman left the game with a lower leg injury - the extent of which remains a mystery right now. Significant with the quick turn around for Green Bay. Hopefully more will be revealed Monday at Halas Hall.

Urlacher's knee is okay, according to him. Lovie took him out of the game when it was in hand. Whether 54 liked it or not, I do. Smart not to push it. Be dominant against the Pack and we'll hopefully start to put the knee behind us...a little.

No Victory Monday: It's back to work Monday. The Bears wasting no time. They will be at Halas early with plenty to prepare for. The Bears haven't won in Green Bay since 2007. And the Packers are upset over the 0-1 start to their season. It's only their second loss since 2010! The Bears better be ready!
