The family of a World War II veteran isn't giving up their fight to get him the benefits he deserves, even after his passing.
Richard Scott barely turned 18 when he joined the Army and found himself on the shores of France before he had the chance to turn 19.
Despite everything he's done for his country, Scott never asked for anything in return until the end of his life, when he needed help to pay for medication.
The veteran applied to the VA for his benefits but his family says he never received much of an answer.
Scott died in June, a full year after he asked the VA for help.
Now, Scott's family says they won't stop fighting. They tell Fox 29 they're hoping the benefits Scott never received will be passed on to his 81-year-old widow, Miriam.
Fox 29 is in touch with the VA in Washington, D.C. on a daily basis on behalf of all of the veterans we are working to get results for.
Fox 29 has learned that as of April, the Philadelphia VA is facing a backlog of more than 58,000 cases.
