(PORTLAND, OR) - You can't teach an old dog new tricks but one dog lover is proving you can get a fat one to lose a few pounds.
Obie may not fit the Dachshund mold right now, at nearly 70lbs, his walk looks more like a waddle.
Foster Mom Nora Vanatta volunteered to take on the extra weight of this meaty dog after reading about Obie on the Oregon Dachshund Rescue's Facebook page. A family member of the previous owners' contacted the group for help.
Obie is now on a strict diet of high protein and high fiber. The 5 year-old pooch has already lost nearly 10lbs. The goal is to get him down to about 40lbs, which could take up to a year.
