Officers with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) say an alligator that attacked a woman in Lake County has been captured and killed.
Sgt. Jim Vachon, of the Lake County Sheriff's Office, confirmed earlier Wednesday that the elderly woman was attacked near a mobile home park in Leesburg around 7:15 a.m.
FWC spokeswoman Joy Hill said the alligator ripped off the woman's right arm above the elbow. She is hospitalized in Orlando in stable condition. The Lake County Sheriff's Office identified the woman as 84-year-old Carol Hough.
Hough's neighbor tells the Orlando Sentinel that he saw the woman flailing Wednesday morning in a canal that runs behind their homes. Delmas Zickefoose says he jumped into the canal and pulled Hough back to land. It wasn't clear why Hough was in the water.
A sheriff's deputy tracked the 8-foot alligator along the canal which was later trapped and killed.
