WESTLAND, Mich. (WJBK) -

The superintendent of Wayne-Westland Schools says a 13-year-old Stevenson Middle School student brought a gun to school.

"The gun was never exposed in school, nor was it ever exposed on the way to school. He had opened his backpack up and showed another student," said Superintendent Greg Baracy.

That student told a teacher after his classmate allegedly showed him a .45 caliber handgun.

"The administration went to the locker, secured the backpack and retrieved the handgun out of the backpack," Baracy explained.

He said students were never in any danger and the 13-year-old had no known disagreements with any students or teachers.

"There was no intent to hurt any student or any group of students. However, there was a clip in the backpack," Baracy said.

The student was immediately taken into custody. Westland Police won't answer any questions about what charges the 13-year-old could be facing.
