Flickr/Creative Commons/JFXieThe managers of the Minnesota Orchestra rejected two counter offers offered by the musicians on Sunday as the possibility of a midnight lockout looms.
On Saturday, the musicians voted unanimously to "play and talk" while the two parties continue their negotiations; however, they now say the management seems "determined to lock out the 'Greatest Orchestra in the World' as Alex Ross of the New Yorker wrote in 2010."
According to the musicians, the offer to play and talk was rejected along with an offer to enter binding arbitration to reach a new contract agreement and avoid a lockout.
The musicians had unanimously rejected a proposed pay cut of between 30-50 percent on Saturday.
Last week, the orchestra managers announced $97 million in new fundraising for it's Building for the Future Fund, including over $50 million allocated for a new lobby in the Orchestra Hall and $14 million in taxpayer funding.
