DETROIT (WJBK) -

Mayor Dave Bing has suspended Detroit Police Chief Ralph Godbee for 30 days with pay.  The move comes as a female officer alleges she had an affair with the chief.

Bing issued the following statement Tuesday afternoon.

"After learning of the allegations regarding Chief Ralph Godbee, I have placed him on a 30-day suspension pending a full and thorough investigation of this matter.  In the interim, Assistant Chief Chester Logan will assume the duties and responsibilities of police chief."

Fox 2's Charlie LeDuff talked to Detroit Police Officer Angelica Robinson, who told him she had an affair with Godbee.  Believing the chief was with another woman while in San Diego for a police convention, she became upset Saturday and posted a photo on Twitter with a gun in her mouth.

We're told the chief sent some Detroit Police officers to check on Robinson and that the department issued weapon has now been taken away from her.
