It has a little something for everyone, and it's not your typical market. From vegan donuts to an old school butcher, the Daily City's Night Market seeks to bring a little bit of big city flavor to Waterford Lakes.
"A box of giant old door knobs, antiques right next to a brand new artisan bread maker - and I love that juxtaposition of old and new and especially with Waterford Lakes," said Mark Baratelli, organizer of TheDailyCity.com night market. "Waterford lakes has some really good stores."
The artisan night market debuted at Waterford Lakes Town Centre in late September and is now on a two-month trial run. It offers a mix of vintage clothing finds, unique foods, and local art, together creating a bit of urban flare in the suburban atmosphere of southeast Orange County.
"It's bringing the quirky neat parts of Orlando to Waterford Lakes area, sort of bringing the quirky to the 'burbs," said Baratelli.
Instead of a traditional farmer's market -- there are dozens around Central Florida -- organizers say the artisan market puts a fresh, hip spin on the outdoor market trend, which has been successful in cities like New York.
"Guinness mustard, stone ground mustard soaked in Guinness, hot bread and butter pickles. We use local Florida produce as well as local Florida wildflower honey, and then I have an extensive list of handmade fresh sausages I make," said vendor Jason Carlucci.
Right now, the event is starting off small but organizers hope to expand it with more vendors and grow as they tap into a new market. Plus, it's good for business all around, said Baratelli.
"We want to do an event that compliments what's here, that brings people here. and then you go out into the rest of the stores," he said.
TheDailyCity.com's next artisan night market is scheduled for 6-9 p.m. October 24 in Waterford Lakes.
