Say the name Kevin James and the word ‘funny' will most likely come to mind. In the upcoming movie, "Here Comes the Boom", James plays the role of Scott Voss, an uninspired Boston biology teacher who, after a brief school meeting regarding budget cuts, decides to raise money in order to save the after-school music program and the job of his friend and music teacher, Marty (played by Henry Winkler).
Less than five minutes into the movie, you get the first glance at how funny the movie will be when Mr. Voss shows his basketball skills to school nurse, Bella Flores (played by Salma Hayek). From there on, you will spend the next hour and five minutes watching how this uninspired teacher transforms himself and his surroundings. There is no specific plan on how to get the money, but from teaching English classes to a group of immigrants who want to become Citizens to entering clandestine Mixed Martial Arts fights, Mr. Voss begins his quest to earn money with the help of Marty and Trainer Niko (played by Bass Rutten).
Full of funny parts that will make you laugh out loud, the movie also provides sweet moments, as well as sports-action buildup, especially if you are a fan of MMA and UFC Commentator Joe Rogan.
Although the movie is rated PG, it does have connotation of violence due to the Mixed Martial Arts. Nevertheless, this movie is truly inspiring as it reminds the movie goers to follow their passion. I give a rating of 4 out of 5.
