PORT CANAVERAL, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -

An unresponsive child was pulled out of the water near Port Canaveral on Friday afternoon.

Port Canaveral Police first responded to a report that a 4-year-old child fell off a jet ski shortly after 2 p.m. near the 700 block of Scallop Drive, an area on the Banana River known as "Ski Island."

When Port Canaveral Fire Rescue and the Brevard County Sheriff's Office (BCSO) arrived, the child was out of the water and on a boat.  The child was transported on life-support to Port Canaveral Hospital and later died.

The identity of the victim cannot be released pending the notification of out-of-state family members, according to officials.   BCSO is investigating to find out what happened.
