Netherworld promises more scares than ever

Posted: Updated:

For more than a decade, it's been scaring thousands of people every October. Netherworld is consistently voted one of the best haunted houses in the country and this year, creators say the scares come bigger and faster than ever.

Stepping into Netherworld is like walking into another dimension. It's a place of demonic dogs, murderous mannequins and possessed portraits.

"We have two attractions, we have Banshee, a classic Halloween nightmare, and downstairs we have a 50s fallout shelter, the Hive, filled with atomic insect mutants," said co-creator Ben Armstrong.

The hissing fish and spiteful swine may terrorize crowds for just a month, but it takes far longer to raise them from the dead.

"Putting a show together like this takes a lot of time, we work on it year-round," said Ben Armstrong. "We are fortunate to have a very talented staff, we have people working in film and television, our costumer Jane Rogers worked in movies for years. Roy Wooley our makeup artist has done a lot of films, he's currently on ‘Face-Off.'"

Face-Off is a SyFy  channel show featuring some of the best makeup artists in the country. At Netherworld, actors are transformed into skinless creatures, bug men and zombies.

"You get here, you start working, you get everything going, and when the actors come in, there's a vibe of energy that goes on, and we're ready to go, and we're all yelling and screaming, and the first guests come in --  it's crazy," said Armstrong.

Netherworld is open every night from October 5 to November 3. The haunted house is located at 6624 Dawson Blvd in Norcross.  For hours and more info, visit: http://www.fearworld.com/
