Candidate Bio: Rodney Davis - 13th District

Rodney Davis is running to represent Illinois' 13th congressional district in the U.S. House.

The Republican has lived in Taylorville since he was 7 years old, graduated with honors from Decatur's Milikin University and previously worked with Rep. John Shimkus among his other civic duties.

In this capacity, Davis said he has seen the role federal government can play in getting constituents what they need, and when it should take a back-seat role in accomplishing the same objective. He promises to bring better quality of life to District 13 residents, and work aggressively to bring down the national debt by ending overspending on the federal level.

Davis has a daughter and twin boys, and has helped his wife in her fight against cancer. She is a 13-year survivor.

He is running against Democrat Dr. David Gill, after Republican primary winner Tim Johnson decided to retire. What used to be a safe GOP seat in the House is now a swing seat.

Illinois' 13th district includes Calhoun, Christian, Decatur, Dewitt, Godfrey, Greene, Jersey, Macon, Macoupin, Madison, Montgomery, Piatt, Sangamon, Taylorville, Champaign and Urbana counties after 2011's redistricting.

Rep. Judy Biggert would have been the incumbent for District 13.
