MAITLAND, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -
Maitland Councilman Phil Bonus delivered his resignation in person to the city manager's office late Thursday afternoon.
On Monday, the council stripped Bonus of the title of vice mayor after video of a DUI arrest from last December was released by the State Attorney's Office days earlier. His name was also found on the list of clients which was released by law enforcement following the break up of an east Orange County prostitution ring.
"After prayerful consideration of the circumstances, I hereby tender my resignation as a
councilman for the City 0f Maitiand, effective immediately," Bonus wrote in his resignation letter. "I apologize to the public for my inappropriate conduct and regret the actions I have taken in my
private life now necessitate the end of my public service."
Bonus had served on the council since 2008.
