Patrols stepped up around Kissimmee elementary schools

KISSIMMEE, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -

Kissimmee police have extra patrols at elementary schools in the area, after receiving three separate reports of a man committing lewd acts or making lewd comments at 10-year-old girls walking to or from school.

"He needs to be off the streets," said Osceola parent Lisette Melendez.

As a mother of 4 kids, Melendez says she's concerned when she hears Kissimmee police are searching for a suspect who they say is targeting young girls.

"We try to protect our kids from everybody and it's just like as parents it's not like we're doing enough to protect our kids because anything could happen to them, and it's just very disgusting that someone would do this to kids," Melendez said.

One of the girls helped police create a composite sketch of the man, they say two of the incidents involved 10-year-old girls walking to Kissimmee Elementary.

"She had a man in a white SUV yell something to her and then exposed himself to her," said Stacie Miller of Kissimmee Police Department.

They say the man also made a lewd comment to another 10-year-old girl riding her bike home from Mill Creek Elementary, officers say the incidents happened about six days apart and each girl reported the man was driving a white SUV -- now they're urging parents to be on the lookout.

"Make sure that their kids are walking, in groups, don't have them walk one by one, make sure they're in big groups and talk to them about stranger danger," Miller said.

The school district says parents at both schools have been notified; Melendez has children who attend Mill Creek and says she'll definitely be on alert.

"Even though they're two feet in front of me, I have my eyes on them," Melendez said.
