Only on FOX: Wife Of Jersey Meningitis Victim Speaks Out

Posted: Updated:
VINELAND, N.J. -

Kathryn Drain of Cumberland County is calling on her faith in one of the most trying times of her life.  Her husband Robert Drain is fighting to stay alive after contracting fungal Meningitis following an epidural to ease back pain.

"My husband is part of me," she said.  "Not one day in our lives have we not said that we love one another."

Drain's case would be New Jersey's first confirmed account of Meningitis following a national outbreak connected to drugs produced by Massachusetts pharmacy New England Compounding Center.

Kathryn Drain said her husband got the injections at a South Jersey orthopedic firm.

He has been bedridden at South Jersey Healthcare Regional Medical Center in Vineland for a week.  She said doctors are struggling to find an effective treatment.

Drain spoke exclusively to FOX29, calling for better regulations to prevent such a problem from happening again, as the feds investigate.

"We're supposed to be living in the best, richest country," she said.  "Who would expect this to happen in the United States of America."
