Lauren Johnson was born and raised in HOT-lanta before leaving and heading to Greenville, SC for college at Furman University. While studying for her Communication Studies degree, she was also hitting the track, doing laps and competing as a member of the women's track and field team. Running kept her competitive and physically fit, but it was her media classes that really kept her going, and she soon stumbled upon her a potential career. To learn more about the television industry, she completed internships in several top markets including Atlanta, Greenville, S.C, and New York. The most memorable of those was working under Diane Sawyer during her days on Good Morning America.
Lauren started her TV career at Central Florida News 13 in 2003. In her role as reporter, she jumped behind the wheel and the camera to explore and capture popular attractions around the state in a franchise called "Florida on a Tankful." She also brought viewers stories about kids in the community, as well as businesses who helped make Orlando a better place to live. One the most memorable experiences was the extensive coverage during the summer of 2004 when the state was hammered by three hurricanes.
Four years later, Lauren traded the fun in the sun for the blues and BBQ and headed to Memphis, TN as the health reporter. While in Tennessee, she worked closely with local hospitals to tell remarkable stories in healthcare. She loved the relationship she created and maintained with the local children's hospital where there was no shortage of miracles! Several of her stories would later be nominated for Emmy awards. She also had the unique privilege to travel to Haiti with a local church outreach group to cover the aftermath of the 2010 earthquake. Lauren made the transition to the anchor desk and co-anchored Good Morning Memphis.
When the opportunity presented itself, Lauren decided to return to The Sunshine State for her second stint to help launch Good Day Orlando on weekend mornings. You can catch her and Tom Johnson from 8a until 10a on Saturday and Sunday.
Lauren loves the weather, culture, and shopping in Central Florida. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, decorating, relaxing, and getting back home to visit family and friends.
