The city of Atlanta has the highest water charges in the nation, but ratepayers say that fact does not stop the city from wasting drinking water. Residents in Midtown say water has flowed down one street since early summer.
Eric Littlefield said that he has called water officials at least five times since July about the apparent leak on Fifth Street between Juniper and Piedmont Avenue. He said that he's seen no one follow up on his calls.
However, water officials said they have no record of contact from Littlefield.
Littlefield said that passing vehicles hit the puddle formed by the leak and splash his car.
If left unattended, leaks can lead to cracks in the pavement and, in some cases, sinkholes.
City crews were seen late Tuesday addressing the leak.
