Checked bags stolen from Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport have been found twice in a matter of days at nearby office park. The people who found the luggage are wondering what's being done to stop it.
Leah McComb's and her co-workers first spotted the luggage on Friday at their office near the Georgia Convention Center. The bags had been ransacked and the belongings scattered.
"They go through it, get what they want and just leave everything else," said McCombs.
The workers called Delta police and building management. Then more bags showed up on Monday morning and they called FOX 5.
"If they're pulling luggage, none of us are going to think anything suspicious. They're not going to look out of place," said McCombs.
The free airport tram has a stop near where the luggage was found, which makes it very easy for someone to grab a bag off baggage claim and sort through it.
"Each bag was marked. All you had to look it had someone's name and their address," said McCombs.
Travelers at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport said it would be easy for a thief to make off with a bag.
"For many, many years, they would stop you at the door and you have to have your claim before you could get out the front door but that hasn't happened to me for years," said traveler Judy Remsen.
McCombs and her coworker tracked down at least one of the people whose luggage was stolen, but they're worried for others.
"If these guys are making money, if it's working for them, I don't know why they would stop until someone makes them," said McCombs.
Delta had not responded to FOX 5's request for comment as of Monday night. The Atlanta Police Department said they've alerted their airport commander, who is starting an investigation.
