Want salon smooth hair at home? The secrets could be as close your fridge! Check out these recipes to Stretch Your Dollar.
Who doesn't love the way you feel after a trip to the salon? That's what owner Chaz Anderson and senior stylist Max Sanchez give their clients at Dragonfly the Salon on Atlanta's west side.
Unfortunately, you can't go there every day. But do-it-yourself salon style could be as easy as your fridge.
"If you're going out on the town and you don't have time to go to the salon, it's a quick fix," said Anderson.
Our first home hair recipe is an unlikely pairing: egg yolks and beer.
"The yolk has protein, pure protein. It's going to strengthen the hair. The beer has yeast, which expands, giving your hair body," said Anderson.
Anderson separates three eggs, then combines the yolks with about an ounce, or just a splash, of beer, whisks, and applies it to the ends of Andrea's dry hair.
"I'm going to totally saturate the ends first. You don't want too much on the scalp," explained Anderson.
He puts a little on top, then twists the hair up, covers it in a plastic cap, and covers with a steaming hot towel from the microwave.
"It opens the cuticle and allows the mixture to seep into the follicle," said Anderson.
After about 15 minutes; shampoo, condition, and style as usual.
The next recipe packs several punches for your hair. Two to three tablespoons of mayonnaise gives your hair shine, and half an avocado restores minerals that your hair loses every day. Finally, a tablespoon of coconut oil is great for a dry scalp and dandruff. Mush it all up and apply to freshly shampooed hair.
"I would grab about this much of the hair, more controllable. Make sure you rub it in and let it soak through the ends of the hair," said Sanchez.
After saturating the ends, Sanchez massages it into the scalp, adds a few sprigs of rosemary for aroma, and then wraps in a wet, warm towel. Leave this in for about 15 minutes, then rinse with cold water. Wait as long as you can before shampooing.
"The longer you leave this product in your hair, the more the oils and the minerals will stay in your hair," explained Sanchez.
For blondes or very light colored brunettes, you can squeeze a slice of lemon around sections of hair. You can then head out into the sun for natural highlights.
