WIXOM, Mich. (WJBK) -- A serial shooter is still on the loose after more than 20 incidents in Ingham, Livingston, Oakland and Shiawassee counties. Tips are rolling in by the hundreds, and police believe they are getting closer to catching the culprit.
At this point, more than 2,000 tips have been received. Those tips are very important in allowing investigators to gain an idea of who might be responsible. They have brought in a number of people who fit the description in some sort of way, but none of them have turned out to be the shooter.
Police held a press conference Wednesday afternoon because they wanted to set the record straight and help people put everything in perspective. There was an alleged road rage incident that happened on I-96 Wednesday morning, and investigators wanted to make it clear that it was in no means connected to the serial shooter.
"We have road rage incidents that happen during the daily commute every day, and normally it would not get reported, but now it gets reported just because it's happening on 96. Out of 24 shootings, three of them have occurred on the freeway. The other ones have all occurred topside, not on the freeway," said Michigan State Police Lieutenant Michael Shaw. (pictured above)
"So what's getting out there is you can't travel 96 without getting shot at," he added. "That is not the case. 96 is safe to travel. You just have to be vigilant in what you're doing."
The last confirmed shooting connected to the serial shooter was last Saturday.
If you know anything, you're asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
