Mother pleads for answers in daughter's murder, #JusticeForHoneyMore>>
A mother is pleading for answers in her 18-year old daughter's death. Vanessa "Honey" Malone was gunned down last week after police say she interrupted a robbery at a Stone Mountain apartment complex.
Flora Malone said that she believes there's more to her daughter's murder and that she's frustrated she has no more answers now than she had nine days ago.
"It's so hard to know that whoever is involved is getting up every day and living their life, like it's OK," said Malone.
According to the police report, Honey walked in on five or six robbers who had tied up two residents. The crooks shot her several times. Her mother and sister believe there's more to the story.
"I'm still going with theory that she was just in the wrong place at the wrong time, but I don't know," said Flora Malone.
"I'm sitting here thinking of all scenarios on how this could even make sense. And nothing at this point is making any sense at all. I don't believe the stories that anyone is putting out there. Of course, there may be some truth in some of that," said Vanessa's sister, Cassandra Malone.
In the search for answers, Honey's friend, Keah Clayton, started a social media blitz. On Vanessa Malone's Facebook page, titled, "R.I.P. Honey," there were more than 120,000 "likes" as of Thursday. Supporters have also created a hashtag, #JusticeForHoney, which has been used on Twitter to spread the word about her murder.Clayton says she wants to use social media as a tool for justice.
"I think so many parents see it and feel like, ‘that could have been my daughter.' Or, ‘that could have been my sister.' It kind of touched a lot of people because she was so young," said Clayton. "We're gonna get answers, I know we are."
DeKalb County police said they have no new information in the case.
Anyone with information about Malone's murder is asked to call the DeKalb County Police Department immediately.
