DETROIT (WJBK) -- Thursday, we uncovered a sex club at the center of an official investigation into Detroit Police misconduct, but that was just the beginning. We also discovered a murder connected with the club. It was operated by a man and his ex-wife, then he was killed in the alley out back in 2010. The motive is unclear. The crime is still unsolved.
The ex-wife continued to operate the sex club, and now we have an interview with the dead man's mother.
"He was murdered going into his back door, and someone came up from behind him and shot him in his back. He collapsed on the ground. They came over, walked over to him and shot him... in his head," said Ivory Patrick. "They made a lot of money. She wanted the building herself after he died. She had a party there. He died in October 2010. She had a sex party there December 2010. They had this big room where people danced and they had little cubicles in there where they had mattresses on the floor."
"Three policemen... came to my building and I don't have any idea why. They left a note for me to call this policeman on the east side.... He just wanted some information, but like I was told by the lieutenant not to speak to anyone, even the police. He told me not to speak to the police."
That police officer on the east side wanted to know if police were involved in this club?
"Yes, but I didn't tell him anything because that's what I was told to do, not to say a word, not to speak to anyone."
"At the Central division told me that they had not heard of his case at all. And from what I was told, I can't remember by who, that it was the elite or the upper people in Detroit. It wasn't just like the everyday person. It was people that had money."
"I was trusting the police at first, but now I don't and mainly because she told me that they were going to be at her sex party, so to me that is corruption within the department."
All this went on literally under the noses of police, who are stationed just two blocks away in Midtown. So just who was occupying those pleasure rooms? It was the cops themselves, city officials and prominent lawyers. How do we know? We spoke with Tonya, who says she was there.
"You could meet people, you could swap, you could have sex as much as you wanted if people were willing, but it was a friendly environment," she said.
What kind of people were there?
"There were people of status. I know there were cops who were involved in it, sheriffs, there were attorneys, there were people from my understanding from Stacy's family who are part of I want to say like city council because she was always bragging about her family."
We have some names, but we need to do some more work before we would throw anybody's name out there.

Secret surveillance allegations. Fudged murder statistics. Overworked, demoralized, ill-equipped, underpaid and disrespected officers forced to play purse snatcher. Can the new chief succeed in the face of such dysfunction?

A stunt designed to test Detroiters' attention to detail went real bad, real quick. The experiment had an officer posing as a purse snatcher. Not factored into the scenario was an FBI agent who wasn't in on the plan.

Coverage of the Boston Marathon bombings has been equally breathless and embarrassing. Spot reports from media outlets who once prided themselves on accuracy and reliability have been little better than Twitter feeds.

I went to the dentist Friday morning and got my tooth drilled. My head was numb from the Novocain. I needed a place to hide where nobody would notice. I found it: Detroit city hall!

Many people are concerned about Belle Isle's future. The EFM is promising not to make any hasty decisions and to review the numbers first, but that could be a problem. There is no Belle Isle budget.
