Frustrations Boiling Over On 5th Day Without Power

BENSALEM, Pa. -

Tens of thousands of people are spending another night with no power in their homes.

That includes 110,000 PECO customers, 33,000 AC Electric customers and 95,000 PPL customers.

And PSE&G has close to 700,000 customers without power.

Many of you have called us, understandably frustrated that your electricity still isn't on.

Many have been told it could be a matter of weeks – not days – before they get power back because utility crews are stretched to their limits.

In Montgomery County, the conditions have prompted leaders to issue a "code blue," which means the weather could be a threat to people without shelter or power.

So, what's taking so long? FOX 29's Bruce Gordon went after answers Friday, filing his video report from Bensalem, Bucks County.

Meanwhile, utility crews are coming from out of state to help restore power. But we've heard rumors that some area utility companies turned away crews that aren't union.

So, we called them.

PECO, PSE&G and PPL all say the rumor is absolutely not true. They say they're accepting any help that's offered.

A spokeswoman for PECO said they're using union and non-union crews from Kentucky, Tennessee, Maryland, Mississippi, Florida and Illinois.

"All of the crews that drove up were they all turned away or just some of them?"

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie on Friday shot down a report that an Alabama-based utility was stopped in Virginia and told to sign union paperwork before they could get into Jersey.

The utility manager spoke to FOX Business' Stuart Varney by phone.

"All of our crews that we sent to that area we have now returned to Decatur," the utility manager said. "I did want to clarify, our crews were sent up there and ended up in the Virginia area in a staging area that never actually got to the New Jersey town that we were heading to to support. We were presented with documents from IBW that required our folks to affiliate with the union, and it was something that we could not agree to. And it was our understanding, and still is, that that was a requirement of working in that area."
