COBB COUNTY, Ga. -
Rain did not deter some voters across the metro area on Tuesday.
Those that went to cast their vote at the Cobb County Civic Center saw plenty of booths open and very small lines.
A Smyrna resident told FOX 5 that the rain was no excuse not to vote.
"Sleet, hail, snow. it didn't matter to me. I was voting," said Gina Hunter, who brought along her 8-year-old daughter.
Marietta resident Amanda Haymore came out to vote with her 1-year-old child. She said she is "lucky to live in this country where we do get to vote. And it sounds silly to say this, as I push the button for voting, I felt so good."
Justina Jackson is deaf so her son Denzel came in from North Carolina to ensure that she had no problems at the polls. The 20-year-old is voting in his first presidential election and says today nothing is more important than democracy in action.
"Just sitting around and not wanting to vote is not going to help America, just talking about it. So why don't we just get out there, get everybody we can to come together and get out there and vote so we can put our voices in there and be a part of history," said Denzel Jackson.
Wait times at other polling locations in the metro area varied. FOX 5's Portia Bruner reports one Roswell voter waited about 20 minutes. A Dunwoody voter reported a 40 minute wait. Voters in north Fulton County reported a 30 minute wait, and in Sandy Springs, 30 minutes. Voters in the Chamblee-Tucker area reported a 5 minute wait.
